The Lineup

Hieroglyphics

The Oakland collective founded in 1993 by Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Souls of Mischief, Casual, Pep Love, Domino, and DJ Toure. They built their own label infrastructure, kept ownership of their masters, and built a fanbase that has stayed loyal for 30 years without major-label support.

Key albums: 93 ’til Infinity by Souls of Mischief (1993), one of the most sampled albums in West Coast hip-hop; 3rd Eye Vision (1998), the Hiero crew album that defined Oakland underground rap; Deltron 3030 (2000), Del’s sci-fi concept album with producer Dan the Automator. Del is also known internationally as the voice behind Gorillaz hits ‘Clint Eastwood’ and ‘Feel Good Inc.’

Cypress Hill

South Gate, California, 1988. B-Real, Sen Dog, DJ Muggs, and Eric Bobo. Over 20 million records sold worldwide — the best-selling Latin rap act in history. Black Sunday (1993) debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. Their combination of blunted West Coast production and B-Real’s nasal delivery created a sound that has never been replicated.

Method Man

Staten Island. Wu-Tang Clan. Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) (1993). Solo debut Tical (1994) — the first Wu solo record. His chemistry with Redman on Blackout! (1999) remains one of hip-hop’s great collaborations. Actor: The Wire, Power Book II: Ghost. Live, his energy is unmatched.

De La Soul

Long Island. Posdnuos, Dave, and Maseo. 3 Feet High and Rising (1989) changed what rap albums could be. De La Soul Is Dead (1991) doubled down on the concept. Their catalog was locked in sample clearance disputes for decades — when it finally hit streaming in 2023, a new generation found them. Trugoy the Dove passed away in February 2023. De La Soul continues as a duo.

Why This Show Matters

The 1993-1996 window in hip-hop produced some of its most important music. These four acts represent that era from different angles — Oakland underground, West Coast Latin rap, East Coast Wu-Tang, Long Island avant-garde. All on the same stage, at one of the most iconic venues in the world.

This isn’t a nostalgia act. These are artists who built durable careers without major-label systems, who still tour, still record, still have active fanbases. October 29, 2026 at Red Rocks is a rare convergence.
